This video demonstrates that big SUVs are not necessarily the safest vehicles out there, new technologies and better designs put the Renault in a better place where the driver was not compromised.

@jeep4jeep I don’t understand your example with the egg box. What represents the egg box and what the brick?
@jeep4jeep
Like I said, I crushed a Honda in a 1999 Grand Cherokee.
Also LOTS of cars score 5 stars, but that is crushing under its own weight.
Think if u drop an egg box from 12 inches to the floor, everything will be fairly safe and secure, then
drop a brick on top of the egg box from the same height.. You have scrambled egg.
In the 3 years i’ve owned my new shape grand, 3 cars including an audi have crashed into mine, all of them women drivers not paying attention, all three cars. WRECKED!
@jeep4jeep I’m afraid your GC would probably be far worse than the Espace…. It’s the highest rated vehicle ever tested by EUROCAP
that test is not fair because the espace is only about 4-5 years old whilst the discovery was about 10-11 years old
Id rather die in a disco than be seen in an Espace
@jeep4jeep the cras test cheeroque 2006 on youtube don“t like better and only have 4 stars, the smart has 5!!!
@darkmanxxx09
wow! New Espace iv is really unbelieveable man!!!
Educate yourself lol….

@ijaen The Grand Cherokee is based off the Mercedes ML. Modern SUV’s are safer than minivan’s and cars because of weight, the bumper heighth(typically the SUV overrides the other), and because it has a much larger crumple zone to absorb more energy(so not only does the passeneger compartment hold up, but the forces inflicted are far less). This isn’t 1992, it’s 2011.
@dominikwys : see this – old model Espace vs New model Espace Crash /watch?v=xQS-7heF-og
result : 10 to 1
I want to say to fifth gear to remake the test, but with a new BMW X6! The Renault get squished!!
@ijaen
Well, first hand experience – I had a crash in a WJ year 2000 GC in SanFrancisco, totally demolished the Honda, and the Jeep only lost the number plate.
The Unibody which the Grand Cherokee has always had since launch in1992 offers very dependable occupant protection, and personally would favour that over the Discovery’s relatively weak body on ladder chassis.
Overall, it’s personal preference – and I actually think LR and Jeep make some of the better 4×4′s in Europe and North America
@smotion943 Airbags being deployed by a small explosion, as with all airbags
@jeep4jeep I don’t think the venerable GC is up to those standards…north american cars, even good suvs like the GC are not the best performers on crashes like this one
@flywithjacob airbags are meant to do that
worst than the crash, is the video quality
lol these r such old cars
81 people have SUV’s
Although this is a good test, the Land Rover was about 10 or 12 years old at the time.
Age, water, salt and corrosion set in!
I’d put my 2006 Grand Cherokee any day against the Renault Espace.
Anyone else see an explosion at 3:48?
don’t crash, problem solved
@smotion943 It’s the airbag gas generator firing off. Might cause minor burns for the occupant.
@GM572 Discovery driver has suffered too much damage to his legs. Airbag won’t really help him.
whats with the fire in the renault at 3:47?
And, once again, with the misfiring of the airbags on the Discovery, the test is not 100% relevant. Just a couple more perfectly good solid cars destroyed. Like they like it on British car TV shows.
Well, i’ve got 2007 RRsport and i don’t give a damn about any Renault on the road =)
